Eight properties are measured on every production lot. If any one falls outside its window, the lot does not ship.

The retained master standard

Every grade has a physical master kept in-house. New production is matched to it, not to the previous batch.

Matching to the previous batch is how a range drifts: each lot is close enough to the one before it, and after twenty lots the colour has walked somewhere else entirely. Matching to a fixed master stops the walk. When you reorder Pigment Green 7 in three years, it is matched to the same physical standard it is matched to today.

  1. Shade

    Drawdown against the retained master standard

    A shade that drifts is the single most expensive fault a pigment can have. It is checked on every lot, not by sampling.

  2. Tinctorial strength

    Reduction against the master in a fixed white

    Strength decides your dosing. If it moves, your cost per kilo of finished product moves with it.

  3. Sieve residue

    Wet sieve, reported as % retained

    Coarse particles show up as specks in film and as blocked screens in printing. Held at 0.1% across the range.

  4. Moisture

    Loss on drying

    Moisture causes foaming in water-based systems and pinholing in plastics. Held below 1.0%.

  5. Specific conductivity

    Aqueous extract, mS cm⁻¹

    Soluble salts destabilise emulsions and corrode equipment. Held below 0.5 across the range.

  6. Oil absorption

    Rub-out method, g per 100 g

    Predicts how the pigment will wet out and how much binder demand it carries into your formulation.

  7. Heat stability

    Held at temperature in the target polymer

    Establishes the processing ceiling. Published per grade, from 200 °C to 300 °C.

  8. Light fastness

    Blue wool scale, 1 to 8

    Establishes outdoor and daylight durability. Published per grade, from 3 to 8.

Light fastness across the range

Rated on the blue wool scale, 1 to 8. Anything going outdoors or behind glass should be specified at 6 or above.

Pigment Red 122 at 8 is the most durable grade in the range and the one to specify for outdoor and automotive-adjacent work.

Documentation you get

  • Technical data sheet. C.I. name and number, C.A.S. number, chemical description, all physical properties, fastness ratings and cleared substrates.
  • Material safety data sheet. Supplied on request for every grade, before you place an order.
  • Certificate of analysis. Lot-specific figures for the properties measured on your consignment.
  • Export documentation. Prepared for international shipments, including packing list and country-of-origin paperwork.
